Simplicity is the Best Policy
Even though we have been used to the latest technological developments in our complicated world, there is still a part in each of us that seems to be looking for a quieter life. A lot of authors taught us to treat life as a rat race that many of us feel that we have to rush ahead of each other in order to get out of the race.
Three tips for a simple life
1. Learn to reduce. Our lives become complicated because we tend to accumulate things that we thought will help us in living our lives. While these things can give us enjoyment, they can also make us feel that our lives are “overstuffed.” With so many things present in our homes, we may feel confused and, later on, unnecessarily stressed.
Get rid of the things that you are no longer using. If you can’t sell them in a garage sale, give them to charity. It is great to be free of the things you no longer need. You will also feel much better in knowing that you are able to send these items to the people who need them.
2. Limit your activities. It may be fun to have an active lifestyle. However, this can give you so much stress. If you would like to have a simple life, learn to take only the tasks and activities that you can manage.
Reflect on the things that you do regularly. Ask yourself if you really have to be in all of them. Some of these may be other people’s responsibilities. Take note of the things that are no longer enjoyable for you. From there, you can start making a list of the activities that you can remove from your schedule. By taking out some activities, you are on your way to living a simple life.
3. Embrace silence. We live in a world that is obsessed with communications. Like most people, you probably have a phone line, an answering machine, a cellphone, and an Internet connection. From time to time, just shut out the noise from your life. Spending time with nature is one of the best ways of doing this.
A simple life is about connecting with yourself
By slowing down and learning to be silent, you start to have a deep connection with your inner self. The freedom that you get from having a simple life can make you get the peace and contentment that you are longing for.
